Bengal may finally have enough green gas for the transport sector. Essar Oil has sniffed shale gas in its Raniganj coal bed methane (CBM) field a few months back. If materializes, it could well be a game changer for the energy sector in the state. Essar Oil of Ruias is one of the pioneers in CBM exploration along with Great Eastern Energy Corporation (GEECL) of Y K Modi in India. Incidentally, both the operating CBM fields in the country is in Raniganj area.
