The excavation clearance for Units 3&4 of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP-3&4) was accorded by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) on January 21, 2016. The excavation has commenced on February 18, 2016.
The excavation will be carried out in stages for the various plant buildings progressively. The entire excavation is expected to be completed in about 15 months.
This information was provided by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on April 27.
