GST is the single largest and most significant reform post-Independence and is a great positive step in the right direction, Union Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu said here on Saturday.
The Union Minister was in the city to attend the 100th GST seminar organised by the Southern India Regional Council of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) in Chennai under the theme ‘GST – A Great Positive Game Changer for India.’
“GST will be a shot in the arm to the government in bringing transparency and greater reliability. We need more openness on transactions down the entire supply chain,” Prabhu said adding, “GST system is neither complicated nor will it take time. Execution is short and direct and people should be having no great difficulty in compliance.”
“We need tax consultants and professionals to create more awareness on the various provisions and mechanisms under GST,” he said. CMA V Murali, chairman, Southern India Regional Council, ICAI and Vashista Jothi, general manager, Southern Railway were also present at the seminar.
