First run of of the much awaited Lucknow Metro was flagged off by Union home minister Rajnath Singh and chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi at the Transport nagar Metro station, on Tuesday .Governor Ram Naik, senior ministers of the state cabinet, local legislators and Union minister of state for housing and urban development Hardeep Puri were present on the occasion along with the projects principal advisor to the Lucknow Metro, the `Metro Man’, E Sreedharan. The rapid transport system’s commercial run on the 8.5km stretch from Transportnagar to Charbagh railway station will begin from 6 am, on Wednesday .
On the occasion, the CM said that instead of an individual Metro corporation for every district, an umbrella corporation Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) would be set up to supervise construction in each of the places.
He sought support and guidance from Sreedharan in the formation of UP Metro Rail Corporation too. “Since Prime Minister Narendra Mo di has a dream of providing Metro transport in 50 cities of the country over the next three years, UP has maximum opportunity ,” said Yogi, adding that Metro project was coming up in Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut and Allahabad.
