Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold his first cabinet meeting after the reshuffle on Tuesday. As per ANI, the meeting will take place at 4:15 PM. In the latest cabinet meeting, that was held on September 3, as many as 9 faces were inducted as ministers of state and four ministers including Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi were promoted to cabinet rank.

While Sitharaman was given Defence Portfolio, Piyush Goyal was moved to Railways to replace Suresh Prabhu, who was given charges of Commerce and industries. Even as Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been given additional charges of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been given the charge of Minority Affairs ministry, Indian Express said.

The nine new faces that were inducted in Modi cabinet, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, include Shiv Pratap ShuklaVirendra Kumar, include Shiv Pratap Shukla, Raj Kumar Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri,Anantkumar Hegde, Satya Pal Singh, Alphons Kannanthanam and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, As per the oneindia.com report, this was perhaps the last reshuffle before the general elections in 2019.

Cabinet, in the August 24 meeting, gave its clearance for the formation of a panel to examine sub-categorisation of near about 5,000 castes in the central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in order to ensure “more equitable distribution” of reservations in central government jobs and educational institutions, Indian Express said.

“Under Article 340 of the Constitution, the President would be recommended to constitute a commission that would examine the central list of OBC and sub-categorise it. The proposal is that there will be sub-categorisation within the OBC list for the purposes of central government employment,’’ Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was quoted as saying by the paper, after the meeting that chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Read more
