Piyush Goyal is attracting a lot of attention for his knowledge of the power sector and rightly so. Power deficit has all but disappeared and coal shortage is a thing of the past. Debt-laden power distribution companies are finally turning around, thanks to the UDAY.
So it did not come as a surprise when Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Rajan on Thursday admired Goyal’s deep knowledge of the electricity sector in her own jolly way.
Ms Mahajan suggested that Goyal should be referred to as “Professor” due to his knowledge on the power sector, evoking peals of laughter in the House.
The comment from the Speaker came during the Question Hour after a long-winding speech by the minister on the status of rural electrification in the country and the steps taken by the government to improve the situation.
“Naam change karna padega, Professor Piyush Goyal (Name has to be changed),” she said, prompting peals of laughter in the House.
