Deen Dayal Upadhayay or Lal Bahadur Shastri? This town near Varanasi, home to one of the country’s iconic railway junctions, is torn between its allegiance to the two historic figures, after the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday decided to begin proceedings to rename Mughalsarai Junction as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Station. There were protests here on Wednesday, with another group demanding it be named after Shastri.
While RRS-BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s body was found under mysterious circumstances on a platform of Mughalsarai railway station in 1968, the town is the birthplace of former Prime Minister Shastri. Read More…
