Santosh Sharma has taken over as the new chairman and managing director of Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), with effect from September 1, 2017. He replaces K D Diwan who retired from service on August 31, 20017.
Prior to his appointment to the top job at the country’s only integrated copper producer, Sharma had been discharging his duties as Director (Operations) of the company since March 1, 2016.
Sharma’s rise to the helm at the copper major has been fast and steady. He joined HCL as General Manager (Operations) on April 26, 2013 and was thereafter elevated to the post of Executive Director (Operations). He has been instrumental in operationalization of Jhagadia Copper Ltd in Gujarat, a unit that had remained closed since 2009.
