Registering nearly 14 per cent growth in power consumption, Telangana has secured first place in the country. It also stood on the top with 1,727 units in per capita power consumption. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has announced the power utilities performance based on various power development indexes for the year 2017-18.
According to chairman and managing director of Telangana Genco and Transco, D Prabhakar Rao, as per CEA, Telangana registered highest growth rate in two divisions stand first in the country. “By recording 13.62 per cent annual growth rate in power consumption, Telangana topped among the other states.
This is 122.91 per cent more than a country’s average growth rate,” the CMD said. Uttar Pradesh state, which is country’s one of the biggest state secured second place with 11.92 per cent growth rate while AP secured third with 7.43 per cent growth rate. Prior to formation of Telangana in 2014, in united AP, consumption growth was just 6 per cent.
With regard to power consumption, Telangana consumption was 53,017 million units (MU) in 2016-17 which rose to 60,237 MU in 2017-18 . Read More
