Continuos rains for over 48 hours just before the five-day mega electrical industries expo-SWITCH, along with the state power minister’s conference on the sidelines of the expo, had posed a big challenge for the organisers and the state government.
However, despite rains playing a spoilsport, the two events got off to an encouraging and successful start in Vadodara, a city that is not only famous for its for its palaces, parks, temples and museums but houses the largest manufacturers of electrical equipment in the country,
Vadodara also has a strong ancillaries market and is known as the ‘transformers hub’ among industry besides being the cultural capital of Gujarat.
“I compliment the organisers for being able to conduct SWITCH despite so many difficulties and unforeseen rains.The organisers had to drain out seven lakh litres of water hours before the event was to commence,” said Union minister of power, coal, renewable energy, coal and mines Piyush Goyal.
“That’s the beauty of the people of this state. Even in the face of adversity they have come out with flying colours, the minister said on the second day of the event and after inaugurating the state power minister’s conference on Thursday.
This is the fifth state power minister’s conference being held during the NDA regime, the earlier ones being held in Delhi, Guwahati, Cochin and Goa.
SWITCH, one of the largest electrical expos in the country along with the prestigious states power ministers meet on the sidelines of the expo saw a gathering of over 7000 delegates and other participants besides huge public participation.
The two events have been organised at the Sardar Patel International Exhibition Centre on 140 acres land at Darjipura near NH-8.
The mega exhibition which is jointly promoted and supported by Gujarat government’s department of energy and petrochemicals with the Federation of Gujarat Industries as the implementation and organizing partner, was inaugurated by Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani in presence of deputy chief minister Nitin Patel and Union minister Piyush Goyal.
