Fuel crisis looms large in Tripura over past three days, as Tanker Association has been agitating over the demand of 30 per cent hike of transportation cost following introduction of daily pricing policy of petroleum products.According to Civil Supplies officials here, Tripura has only a limited storage of petrol and diesel at present because the stock has been affected due to irregular supply of petroleum products for past a week from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). The fuelling stations across the state were witnessed long queue of the bikers and transporters till late night and early mornings. At least 6 to 7 fuel tankers are reaching at Agartala, which was not sufficient to cater the demand. At present IOC doesn’t have any oil depot in Agartala and as a result, most of the supplies have been coming from Silchar and stored at Dharmanagar Depot, officials said, adding that IOC depot is constructing a depot at Bishalgarh at a cost of Rs 120 crore, which will come up in next three years.Reportedly, reluctance of some pump owners to sell petroleum products due to unfounded fear of loss after the GST comes into force has multiplied the crisis. Moreover, supply of petroleum products was not sufficient from IOC depots in Assam for last few days due to transporters strike. The Civil Supplies Minister Bhanu Lal Saha however, hoped that IOC officials asserted that the supply will be regularised in the state by next couple of days and the department has been extra vigilant over hoarding and black marketing of petroleum products.”If the situation doesn’t improve we have to re-introduce rationing of petrol and diesel to manage the situation,” Saha said adding that sudden growth of vehicles has affected the supply chain and despite sincere effort Gas Authority of India is not expanding the fuelling stations of CNG and enhance the capacity of the existing stations.
